I was lying in bed one morning scrolling through Facebook when I came across a friend’s post, the type of post that tells you to follow your dream, do something that you want to do with your life. She had set up a new business, The Secret Inspirer, and I lay there thinking it’s all well and good telling us just to live the dream, but what the hell is my dream? Then it came to me, I would start a cat website! It was a great idea, well in my mind any how, and I set about on my new project feeling very motivated. One year on and after a constant battle with my lack of IT skills, inability to build a website, and procrastination, I was feeling rather despondent, then everything changed. What I should have been doing was staring me right in the face. I was actually surrounded by what had become my passion, but I hadn’t even realised it- art and painting.
I happened to discover the joys of painting when one evening I decided to paint a montage of Homer Simpson on a wall in my spare room, then I did a wall in the kitchen, and before I knew it there were no walls left in the house, and having even moved on to the ceiling, I finally started to paint on canvas.
I left my job as an industrial painter, to work less hours, to give myself more time…to paint! 8 years later, and here we are. It’s been a fantastic journey, I recommend everyone to take up painting, I love my art, and hope you enjoy it too!
